Supporting the event as official car sponsor is none other than Volkswagen Group Malaysia, which has supplied some 190 units of the Passat to be used throughout the race by riders, safety marshalls, and police officers.
Commenting on the sponsorship, Mr Armin Keller, Managing Director of Volkswagen Group Malaysia said that “Volkswagen Malaysia is honoured to be a part of this year’s Tour De Langkawi 2016 – one of Malaysia’s prestigious sporting event. We are also very pleased that our locally-assembled Volkswagen Passat which comes packed with world-class safety features will play a vital role in keeping the event, delegates and officials as well as the riders safe while on the race.”
An annual fixture in the Malaysian sporting calendar since 1996, the Le Tour de Langkawi features 10 stages over the course of 10 days. The route changes each year, but always includes a climb up Genting Highlands as the toughest leg of the tour – the task of powering up the steep slopes will eminently suit the Passat’s turbocharged 1.8-litre TSI engine.
