Volkswagen Sharan Updated With New Engines And In-Car Connectivity

Volkswagen’s seven-seater MPV, the Sharan, has been revised with more efficient engines and enhanced car networking features.

First up, there are two petrol (TSI) and three diesel (TDI) powerplants offered, all of which are specified as four-cylinder, 16-valve engines featuring turbocharging and direct fuel injection. On the petrol side, the TSI engines provide either 220PS (an increase by 20PS) or 150PS where the latter is claimed to consume just 6.4l/100km when paired to a manual transmission.

As for the TDI offerings, they are available at three power outputs: 115PS, 150PS (up by 10PS), and 184PS (up by 7PS). Volkswagen say the first two TDI engines (115PS and 150PS) provide a fuel consumption of just 5.0l/100km when mated to a six-speed manual gearbox.

All engines fulfil the Euro-6 emission standard and can be had with a six-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission (DSG) save for the lowest powered diesel engine. 4MOTION all-wheel drive is also an option for the 150PS TDI engine.

As for styling, the Sharan’s updated exterior look now includes rear LED taillights and an expanded range of wheels and body colours. The interior also receives three new trim designs – Platinum Silver, Piano Black, and Mirror Oak. Modified steering wheels and a massage function for the optional 12-way seats can also be specified.

The interior also benefits from Volkswagen’s second generation modular infotainment matrix which is interfaced through either a standard five-inch or 6.5-inch touchscreen display. Features include navigation and new smartphone integration capability for Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.

Driver assistance and safety systems also receive a boost with Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) being made available for the first time on the Sharan. Other additions include an Auto Hold function for the electronic parking brake system, optional Park Assist, Blind Spot Monitor, and Rear Traffic Alert. Automatic Post-Collision Braking and optional Front Assist traffic monitoring system are still available with the former coming as standard.

The Sharan is available with five, six, or seven seats, all featuring rear sliding doors. Two customised special models known as the Sharan Ocean and Sharan Beach can be ordered as well with additional options fitted on as standard.
