2016 Honda Accord Facelift Launched in Thailand; Hybrid Version to Follow

A facelift version of the current-generation Honda Accord makes its first ASEAN appearance in Thailand, incorporating nifty updates for the well-received D-segment sedan that has been with us since 2013.

Virtually identical in appearance to the North American Accord that debuted State-side last August, the Thai-spec model foreshadows a similar update that we are expecting to hit our shores within this year.

In keeping with current trends, the facelifted Accord embraces full-on LED illumination – headlights, fog lights, daytime running lights, and tail lights. The redesigned tail lamps light up with a distinctive three-bar visual signature. The nose also receives a new grille design that is more chrome-intensive.

Inside, the existing cabin’s basic architecture is maintained but enhanced with a choice between wood grain and piano black inserts. A new Advanced Display Audi (A-DA) infotainment system features Apple CarPlay connectivity and smartphone MirrorLink function.

A notable addition to the kit count that would be in the wish list of many Malaysian buyers would be Engine Remote Start – a useful feature that can start the engine and activate air-conditioning remotely to cool the cabin before getting on board in a hot day.

Safety is covered by the fitment of six airbags and all-round visibility is enhanced by tools such as Honda LaneWatch, Active Cornering Lights, and Multi-angle Rearview Camera offering three viewing perspectives.

Under the hood, Honda’s familiar pair of 2.0- and 2.4-litre four-cylinder i-VTEC engines continue their service in conjunction with Honda’s in-house developed 5-speed automatic transmission. Thai market vehicles are E85 compatible. Outputs are unchanged from current levels; 155hp/190Nm from the 2.0, 174hp/225Nm from the 2.4.

Mirroring the model mix offered in our market, the Thai-spec Accord is available in three variants:
- 2.0 E: THB 1,385,000
- 2.0 EL: THB 1,445,000
- 2.4 EL: THB 1,635,000

The above three variants will be joined in short order by a hybrid variant. The pre-facelift Accord was already offered in Thailand with a hybrid variant powered by Honda’s Sport Hybrid setup combined with a 2.0-litre DOHC Atkinson cycle engine to offer a net system output of 169hp and 307Nm.
