2017 Mitsubishi Outlander CKD – 2.0L 4WD, RM140k

Mitsubishi Motors Malaysia (MMM) has introduced the locally-assembled version of its Outlander SUV. Powered by a 2.0-litre petrol engine with four-wheel drive as standard, the new Outlander CKD will be sold alongside the existing 2.4-litre CBU model.

A line-off ceremony was held earlier today at the Tan Chong Motors Assembly (TCMA) Segambut plant to mark the new variant’s introduction. The Outlander becomes the second model by MMM to be contract-assembled at the TCMA Segambut plant following the ASX CKD’s introduction in 2014 – an arrangement that interestingly foreshadowed the Renault-Nissan Alliance’s acquisition of Mitsubishi Motors Corporation last year.

Until the end of this year, the Outlander 2.0 CKD is offered at an introductory price of RM139,988 on-the-road without insurance. The existing 2.4 CBU model, meanwhile, is currently priced at RM171,000 under the same terms.

Powering the new Outlander 2.0 CKD is Mitsubishi’s seasoned 2.0-litre 4B11 inline-4 naturally aspirated powertrain that we are familiar with from the Lancer and ASX. Outputs are rated at 145 PS and 196 Nm. The 2.4-litre model, to recap, offers 167 PS and 222 Nm.

Drivetrain layout is identical to the 2.4-litre model with the INVECS-III CVT hooking the engine up to a three-mode intelligent four-wheel drive system as standard.

As standard, the new Outlander 2.0 CKD comes with the following equipment:

• 225/55 R18 tyres with 18-inch alloy wheels
• Halogen projector headlamps with LED DRL and position lamp
• LED tail lights
• Auto headlights
• Auto wipers
• Dual-zone air-con

• Reverse camera, front and rear parking sensors
• 7-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay

The existing 2.4 CBU model adds the following:

• Electric parking brake
• Brake auto-hold
• Large floor console
• Auto-leveling LED headlamps
• Paddle shifters
• Auto-dimming rear view mirror
• Leather seats, power adjustment
• Seat heater
• Powered tailgate
• Sunroof

No significant changes are made to the locally-assembled Outlander’s appearance, but it does get an exclusive Malaysia-only Ruby Black paint job to choose from a three-colour palette that also offers Red Metallic and Solar White.
