All-New 2018 Volkswagen T-Roc Introduced, Will Challenge HR-V, CX-3 And C-HR

Volkswagen has just unveiled its fourth SUV in its global lineup. Called the T-Roc, this new SUV from Volkswagen is a compact SUV features a coupe-like roof line and a new design language, all built on the company's Modularer Querbaukasten (MQB) platform. The new Volkswagen T-Roc will be positioned below the Tiguan, challenging the Honda HR-V and Mazda CX-3.

Coming in at 4,234 mm in length, 1,819 mm in width and 1,573 mm in height, the Volkswagen T-Roc is marginally shorter than the Honda HR-V (4,294 mm) and Mazda CX-3 (4,275 mm), though the T-Roc is wider than both its Japanese rivals. In terms of height, the Volkswagen T-Roc slots between the Honda HR-V (1,605 mm) and the Mazda CX-3 (1,550 mm). The Volkswagen T-Roc's 2,603 mm wheelbase is identical to the Tiguan and its slightly shorter than the HR-V (2,610 mm) but longer than the Mazda CX-3's 2,570 mm.

The company said that the T-Roc is the first SUV that is available in two-tone paintwork with a contrasting roof section. Other design highlights include various plastic cladding around the bodywork, signature LED DRL and various chrome bits, including a chrome strip that runs alongside the top of the windows to the rear of the T-Roc. 

Inside, the Volkswagen T-Roc gets the Active Info Display and smartphone connectivity. Volkswagen Car Net allows T-Roc drivers to utilize a range of online services and apps. On top of that, there is the Security & Service package that inludes Emergency Service, Automatic Accident Notification and Roadside Assistance. 

In terms of practicality, the Volkswagen T-Roc features 445 litres of boot space with the rear seats up, besting the Honda HR-V's 437 litres and Mazda CX-3's 264 litres. With the T-Roc's rear seats folded down, boot space expands to 1,290 litres, making it less than the Honda HR-V's massive 1,462 litres but more than the Mazda CX-3's 1,174 litres.

Equipment wise, the Volkswagen T-Roc gets standard air-conditioning, Composition Colour infotainment system, LED tail light cluster, visual underbody guard (black) and LED daytime running lights in the bumper. Additionally, the T-Roc comes standard with Front Assist area monitoring with City Emergency Braking and Pedestrian Monitoring, the Automatic Post-Collision Braking System and Lane Assist. Optional safety equipment include adaptive cruise control (ACC), Rear View reversing camera, the lane change system including Rear Traffic Alert, Blind Spot Monitor,Lane Assist, Park Assist including manoeuvring brake function, Traffic Jam Assist and Emergency Assist. 

A total of six engines are offered on the new Volkswagen T-Roc, three TSI petrol engines and three TDI diesel engines. Between those engines, the T-Roc can be had either partly in front-wheel drive and manual gearbox, partly with front-wheel drive, 4Motion all-wheel drive and the seven-speed DSG dual-clutch gearbox. 

Prices will start from EUR 20,000 in Germany, putting the Volkswagen T-Roc between the Honda HR-V (EUR 20,690) and the Mazda CX-3 (EUR 17,990). Market launch in Europe will happen in November.
