All-New 2019 Ford Ranger Set To Get Four New Engines Including 2.0-litre Diesel

The highly-successful Ford Ranger T6 is set for a total makeover by 2019 featuring a variety of upgraded features plus an entirely new range of petrol and diesel engines, a report from Australia’s GoAuto.com has revealed.

Development is said to be led by Ford’s Asia-Pacific Product Development office based in Melbourne, which was also responsible for developing the current T6 model.

Freed from the need to work on the now-discontinued Falcon and Territory models, the engineers are able to dedicate a substantial chunk of its AU$450 million budget to work on the Ranger.

A whole new range of engines are expected to feature under the bonnet. The familiar 2.2-litre 4-cylinder and 3.2-litre 5-cylinder diesel mills are set to be discontinued and will be replaced by a new-generation 2.0-litre EcoBlue 4-cylinder and a 3.0-litre PowerStroke V6 developed in collaboration with the PSA Group and former subsidiary Land Rover.

Petrol engines are set to take on added importance, as Ford now has the US market in mind as well. There will be at least two turbocharged petrol engines speculated to include the familiar 2.0-litre EcoBoost mill currently powering the Mondeo and S-Max as well as the 2.7-litre twin-turbo V6 EcoBoost engine.

Also set to be featured in the new Ranger, although we are uncertain if it will be standard or optional fit, will be rear disc brakes which, according GoAuto.com, have been fitted on all test mules of the Ranger spotted to date.
