BMW M4 DTM Edition – 200-Unit Special To Mark 2016 DTM Title

BMW Motorsport Works Driver Marco Wittmann has just secured the 2016 German Touring Car Championship (DTM) driver’s title, and BMW is marking the occasion with a celebratory M4 DTM Champion Edition limited to just 200 units across the world.

Essentially an M4 GTS with DTM racing stripes, the M4 DTM Champion Edition gets the enhanced version of the M4’s 3.0-litre straight-six engine featuring the same enhancements as seen in the M4 GTS, notably its water injection system that cools the engine more effectively.

Vital stats are therefore identical to the M4 GTS, the engine churning out 69hp and 50Nm more than the regular F80 M4 to give output numbers of 500hp and 600Nm. It completes the sprint from 0 to 100km/h in just 3.8 seconds en route to a top speed of 305km/h. Fuel consumption and CO2 emissions are rated at 8.5 litres/100km and 199 g/km respectively.

Compared to the regular M4, the M4 DTM is further lightened with extensive use of carbon fibre body panels and lightweight titanium exhaust silencer.

At each corner, the M4 DTM sits on racetrack-spec Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 high performance tyres; sizing is staggered – 265/35 R19 at the front, 285/30 R20 at the rear. Carbon ceramic brakes are standard, as are individually adjustable 3-way coilovers.

Finished exclusively in Alpine White, the M4 DTM Edition wears many common styling cues with BMW’s DTM racing cars. Aerodynamic items such as front splitter, side mirror, side skirts, rear diffuser, rear spoiler, and other fins are left in unpainted carbon finish to achieve the raw race car look.

Inside, the regular M4’s rear seats are stripped out and replaced with a white-painted roll cage (orange-painted in the M4 GTS) for reinforced body rigidity. The remaining two seats are M Carbon items trimmed in Alcantara / Leather Merino finish. Rest of the interior is trimmed in Alcantara, and its M Sports steering wheel has a grey mark on its 12 o’clock position.

It’s not lacking in amenities though; you will find satellite navigation, adaptive LED headlights, active high beam assistance, OLED tail lights, all-round parking sensors, and auto-dimming mirrors.

The M4 DTM Champion Edition 2016 is priced at €148,500 in Germany.
