The ASEAN car project that was first mooted as a memorandum of understanding between Proton and Indonesia's PT Adiperkasa Citra Lestari is currently under discussion and could proceed as planned, according to DRB-Hicom.
According to a report by Bernama, DRB-Hicom group managing director Datuk Seri Syed Faisal Syed Albar said, “There is no cost involved and we need to study it a lot.”
Under the 2015 MoU, Proton and PT Adiperkasa Citra Lestari will study the feasibility to explore areas of cooperation, including the possibilities of commercial and technical aspects.
Additionally, the MoU also required both companies to plan for other relevant processes including market studies, logistic services, localization, and engineering.
Earlier, reports emerged that the joint effort between Proton and Indonesia to assemble an ASEAN car could be restarted as Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad and Indonesian President Joko Widodo recently met during Tun M’s visit to Indonesia last month.
