Geneva 2017: The 2018 Honda Civic Type R In The Flesh

Unveiled at the ongoing 2017 Geneva Motor Show, the 2018 Honda Civic Type R is undoubtedly one of the most exciting unveils of this year’s show, attracting much fanfare and envious eyes from competing brands. Pssst, Nissan is right next door.

However, up till now most of the images you would have been swooning over have been polished press images, bathed in careful light in an undisclosed location. Now take a closer look at the Type R in the flesh, here are live images from Geneva 2017.

Set to go on sale in America later this year, the Type R version of the tenth-gen Civic is powered by a 2.0-litre VTEC engine which delivers 306hp and 400Nm of peak torque. Paired with the engine is a short-shifting 6-speed manual gearbox with rev-matching.

The 2018 model introduces enhanced front suspension which comprises retuned springs, new damper and bushing, a dual-axis front suspension, as well as aluminium lower arms and steering knuckles, all designed with one thing in mind – to reduce torque steer. The highlight feature is the Adaptive Suspension System designed to tear up any B-road or track.

Weighing 16kg lesser than the outgoing model, the new Civic Type R will offer its owners three drive modes - Comfort, Sport and +R, and also comes with Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA) as standard.
