The Honda Civic has added yet another accolade to its list, this time winning the Family Car category of the 2016 Women’s World Car of the Year award. The smaller Honda Jazz also won in the Budget Car category.
The awards, now in their seventh year, are the only global car honours voted for exclusively by female automotive journalists.
Judged by a panel of 17 female journalists from 14 countries, including two from New Zealand, the judges consider criteria women utilise when buying a car - safety, value for money, aesthetic appearance, storage space, child friendliness, ease of driving, colour, sex appeal and environmental footprint.
Each member of the global judging panel submits their personal nominations. This year’s awards saw 294 cars nominated. The nominated cars are then reduced to a shortlist of 32 cars in six different categories.
Honda is the only manufacturer to take multiple category titles.
