Literally, nobody in the world was thinking about it but Honda is working on a Honda CR-V Hybrid Racer project with 800hp.
That wasn't a typo, folks. A joint effort between the engineers at Honda Performance Development (HPD) and Auto Development Center (ADC) along with designers from the North America Auto Design Division of American Honda is currently hard at work for this particular feat.
Official unveiling 28 February 2023
Not a lot of details have been shared regarding this track-oriented Honda CR-V apart from it carrying a hybrid powertrain that punches out a whopping 800hp and its official reveal date will be on 28 February 2023.
They've also released a short teaser video showcasing some snippets of the Honda CR-V Hybrid Racer project car. From this, we can conclude that it's going to be designed to look like the CR-V, but everything else under the full carbon fibre exterior shell is nothing but bespoke such as its tube frame chassis and more.
It'll be interesting to see what kind of powertrain the American Honda boys and girls will be using for this particular project but for now, we'll just have to wait for its global reveal set for 28 February 2023. Will it race anywhere? Pikes Peak comes to mind.
