Kia Stinger Makes Malaysian Debut At 2017 MAI Autoshow

The Kia Stinger has made its Malaysian debut at the ongoing 2017 MAI Malaysia Autoshow. The model is yet to be launched, and no indicative prices have been announced. The display unit is left-hand drive, hence would differ from the forthcoming Malaysian specifications model.

The Kia Stinger first debuted at the 2017 Detroit Motor Show in January this year. Positioned above the front-wheel drive Optima GT, the rear/ all-wheel drive Stinger competes against the likes of the Audi A5 and BMW 4 Series Gran Coupe.

On display is a range-topping GT variant, powered by a 3.3-liter twin-turbo V6 (Lambda II engine) producing 365 hp at 6,000 rpm and 510 Nm of torque between 1,300 – 4,500 rpm. More power than the Audi S5 Sportback, BMW 440i Gran Coupe, and Infiniti Q50.

Performance numbers read 4.7 seconds for the 0-100km/h sprint, onto a 268 km/h top speed for the Stinger GT.

The engine sends power to second-generation eight-speed automatic transmission (designed in-house) that employs a Centrifugal Pendulum Absorber (CPA) torque converter to reduce torsional vibrations through the drivetrain.

The Stinger is Kia’s first sedan available with rear- or all-wheel drive. The GT variant is offered with a rear-wheel biased AWD system with Dynamic Torque Vectoring Control.

Apart from the Stinger GT's 3.3-litre V6, a smaller 2.0-liter twin-scroll turbocharged four-cylinder is also offered in certain markets, producing 255 hp at 6,200 rpm with 352 Nm of torque between 1,400 – 4,000 rpm, allowing a 0-60 mph sprint time of 5.9 seconds.
