When the production ready model came out a few months ago at Goodwood, it sparked excitement from MX-5 fans everywhere. A truly unique take on the MX-5, more than just a hardtop variant, and confirmed for production- what more could one ask for? The MX-5 RF has finally been confirmed for sales in Japan, where it will hit dealer showrooms by the 22nd of December. Unique features to the MX-5 RF are the powered retracting targa-top of sorts, without compromising the (already meager) boot space. More importantly, the MX-5 RF will be made available for the Japanese market with the 2.0-litre SKYACTIV-G engine, rather than the 1.5-litre engine that they normally receive. This is most likely done to offset the weight penalty of the folding hard top system. The suspension has also been retuned to account for the shift in weight balance. Pricing for the MX-5 RF starts at JPY 3,240,000 (RM 130,715), and goes as high as JPY 3,736,800 (RM 150,758).
