Possible seven-seater variant of the 2018 Mazda CX-5 spied

Mazda is preparing to debut a seven-seater variant of their new CX-5 towards the end of this year.

A lone spyshot of what could be the seven-seater variant of the Mazda CX-5 was caught by a Japanese Twitter user, indicating that Mazda is likely preparing a seven-seater variant of the CX-5 to counter the new Honda CR-V and the Nissan X-Trail.

Earlier, we speculated that the new model could be called the Mazda CX-6, slotting above the CX-5 but below the CX-9 as Mazda does not sell the CX-9 in Japan. Dimension wise, the upcoming seven-seater model may come in at 4,690 mm long, 1,840 mm wide and 1,695 mm tall, making its 135 mm than the regular CX-5.

Powertrain options should mirror that of the five-seater CX-5, a 2.2-litre SkyActiv-D turbodiesel and a newer 2.5-litre SkyActiv-G petrol, both mated to a six-speed automatic transmission driving the front wheels or all four wheels. A smaller 2.0-litre SkyActiv-G is also on the cards.

How soon can we expect to see this new model debut? A debut just before the end of 2017 is on the cards, which likely means that a 2018 debut is plausible for the rest of the world.

Back home, analysts at RHB Research say Bermaz is said to be launching the all-new Mazda CX-5 as soon as July in CKD form.
