Seven-Seater Mazda CX-5 Set For Q4 Japan Debut

Mazda will debut a seven-seater variant of the second-generation CX-5 in the fourth quarter of 2017.

According to a report by Nikkei, Mazda's domestic production of the new CX-5 is expected to be 97,000 units. Other parts of the world can expect to receive the seven-seater CX-5 in 2018.

In terms of vehicle dimensions, the upcoming model is said to come in at 4,690 mm long, 1,840 mm wide and 1,695 mm tall. This makes the seven-seater Mazda CX-5 135 mm longer than the regular five-seater CX-5. We speculated earlier that the seven-seater variant could be called the CX-6.

Mazda did not specify what powertrains will be offered on the new CX-5, but engine choices should be identical to the regular CX-5 variant, which includes a 2.2-litre SkyActiv-D turbodiesel and a newer 2.5-litre SkyActiv-G petrol. A small 2.0-litre SkyActiv-G is also possible. All engines are paired to Mazda's SkyActiv six-speed automatic that sends power to the front or all four wheels.

Malaysians can look forward to the new Mazda CX-5 as soon as July, as reported by RHB Research.
