Spyshot: Upcoming BMW M8 Competition Leaked

The new BMW M8 Competition has been leaked ahead of its official debut, thanks to a tipster that posted these photos on the GermanCarForum site.

As the name suggests, the M8 Competition sits above the regular M8 in the 8 Series hierarchy, boasting additional aerodynamic bits and more carbon fibre pieces than the regular M8, much like prior M Competition cars.

In the case of the F30-generation M3, the Competition Pack gave the M3 a revised exhaust setup with black muffler tips, larger alloy wheels, carbon fibre exterior trim pieces, different suspension tuning, additional power, and various interior upgrades.

We reckon the same could be applied to the M8 Competition, as this unit is decked out with blacked-out quad muffler tips, unique wheels, and various carbon fibre exterior parts, like the side mirror covers, rear diffuser, and discreet rear spoiler. To keep centre of gravity lower to the ground, the BMW M8 is equipped with carbon fibre roof, which is currently an option on the regular 8 Series. A lone M8 Competition emblem helps to complete the exterior.

As for the interior, we can see that BMW’s M division has fitted the M8 Competition with a carbon fibre centre console, increasing its sporty appeal. In addition to that, the M Steering wheel is expected to feature the same red M shortcut buttons as the new F90 BMW M5. The M8 Competition seen here also gets a red engine start/stop button, unique M sports seats, and an M gear lever.

Power for the regular M8 is expected to be derived from the same 4.4-litre bi-turbo V8 out of the F90 M5 that churns out 600 hp and 750 Nm, while the hotter M8 Competition is expected to have a slight power increase.

A debut in 2019 is all but confirmed, though it remains to be seen at which venue BMW will launch the model.
