Toyota Malaysia Teases All-New Rush, Debut Soon

The all-new Toyota Rush will be launched in Malaysia real soon, as Toyota Malaysia’s official Facebook page has posted a teaser of the new model.

Set to be introduced on October 18th, the company has already opened the registration of interest for the new model.

As reported earlier, specifications for the local Toyota Rush will likely mirror that of units sold in Indonesia, Philippines, and South Africa.

In terms of safety equipment, the all-new Rush is expected to be rather feature-packed, including:

  • Forward Collision Warning (FCW) with Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB)
  • 360-degree surround view camera
  • Blind Spot Monitor (BSM)
  • Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA)
  • Six airbags
  • ISOFIX child seat mounts
  • Electronic Stability Control (ESC)

To recap, the all-new Toyota Rush is powered by a 1.5-litre 2NR-VE Dual VVT-I that does 105 PS and 136 Nm, mated to a 4-speed automatic that sends power to the rear wheels.

For Malaysia, market talks is that Perodua will be assembling the all-new Rush under contract for UMW Toyota, mirroring a similar arrangement done with the first generation Toyota Avanza for UMW Toyota back in 2005. The only other plant manufacturing the Rush is the P.T. Astra Daihatsu Motor plant in Indonesia, which also makes the Rush's donor car the Daihatsu Terios. Like the Avanza, the Rush is a Daihatsu-developed product but is also sold under the Toyota brand.

On the topic of Perodua, the company is expected to preview its all-new D38L SUV at the upcoming Kuala Lumpur International Motor Show (KLIMS) in November, though the new Perodua SUV is only expected to go on sale early next year.
