Bangkok 2018: BMW Unveils The M850i xDrive Coupe

Auto News

BMW Group Thailand took the opportunity to launch the new flagship M850i xDrive coupe at the Thailand International Motor Expo 2018.

Up front, the new BMW M850i features the slimmest head lamps of any BMW model to date. Blue accents inside the head lamp point to BMW's Laserlight technology.

The brand’s signature kidney grille flares outwards as well as descends downwards to emphasize the coupe's low centre of gravity.

Powering the BMW flagship coupe is a new generation M Performance twin-turbocharged V8 engine, displacing 4.4 litres. Maximum outputs are 530 hp peaking from 5,500 rpm to 6,000 rpm and a tremendous torque amount of 750 Nm available from 1,800 rpm to 4,600 rpm.

Similar to the high-performance BMW (F90) M5, drive from the glorious-sounding V8 engine is sent to all four wheels via the intelligent xDrive all-wheel drive system. The rear-wheel bias of the xDrive system and the rear locking differential ensure maximum agility and precision.

The benchmark zero to 100 km/h acceleration is completed in a mere 3.7 seconds.

Stopping power in the M850i is equally impressive with the front brake discs measuring 395 millimetres, which are grabbed by 4-piston calipers painted in blue. Large 20-inch wheels fill the arches assertively.

Meanwhile, glass is applied to the iDrive controller, ignition button, and the volume control. An illuminated ‘8’ can be seen through the glass surface of the gear selector.

In terms of advanced driving assistance systems, the M850i coupe is fitted with Person Warning with City Braking Function, Lane Departure Warning, and Blind Spot Detection with rear cross-traffic warning.

The new BMW M850i xDrive is priced from 12,999,000 Thai Baht (RM 1.647 million), which is slightly cheaper than the BMW M5 which is priced at 13,339,000 Thai Baht.
