In conjunction with the Awal Muharram celebration tomorrow (14th October) to mark the beginning of the first month in the Muslim calendar, the national-level Ma’al Hijrah procession will take place in the capital, necessitating some road closures between 6.30am to 9am.

Bernama reports that the Kuala Lumpur Traffic Investigation and Legal staff officer DSP S. Markandan revealed the roads to be Jalan Parlimen, Jalan Tun Perak, Jalan Raja (Dataran Merdeka), Jalan Hishamuddin, Bulatan Hishamuddin, Jalan Bangsar, and Jalan Perdana.

Citizens who are joining in on the procession will be gathering at five locations – Masjid Jamek along Jalan Tun Perak, Padang Merbok, Dataran Merdeka, Muzuim Kenesian Islam at Jalan Perdana and Muzium Negara. From there, they will begin the walk to Masjid Negara.

The gathering itself, along with the procession, is organized by the Islamic Development Department of Malaysia (Jakim) and is expected to draw an expected crowd of 50,000.
