Auto News

After teasing us countless times, Honda has finally unveiled the production version of the 2018 Civic Type R at the ongoing Geneva Motor Show.

Set to go on sale in America later this year, the Type R version of the tenth-gen Civic is powered by a 2.0-litre VTEC engine which delivers 306hp and 400Nm of peak torque. Paired to the engine is a short-shifting 6-speed manual gearbox with shift-matching.

Another noteworthy feature with the new Civic Type R is its front suspension which comprises retuned springs, new damper and bushing, a dual-axis front suspension, as well as aluminium lower arms and steering knuckles, all designed with one thing in mind – to reduce torque steer.

The icing on the cake however, has to be the Adaptive Suspension System which further adds to crazy handling.

Weighing 16kg lesser than the outgoing model, the new Civic Type R will offer its owners three drive modes - Comfort, Sport and +R, and also comes with Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA) as standard.

Features in the cabin on the other hand, include a seven-inch touch screen, GPS, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, a 12-speaker audio system, bucket seats, leather-wrapped steering wheel, aluminum sport pedals and gearknob, and Type R emblems everywhere.

Expected to be manufactured in the UK, whether the new Civic Type R will make it to this part of the world or not remains a mystery.
