JPJ’s RFID Embedded Road Tax Implementation Coming “Soon”

Auto News

The Road Transport Department’s timeline to implement RFID tags on road tax stickers may turn out to be sooner than initially thought. The revelation came after some new information emerged about congestion charges in Kuala Lumpur.

With DBKL looking at ways to implement congestion charges in the capital city with the opening and subsequent expansion of public transport systems such as the MRT, a tidbit of info came to light:

DBKL is planning to implement the same radio frequency tagging system to monitor and charge vehicles that drive into the centre of Kuala Lumpur.

A source within DBKL told The Sun Daily that the nationwide introduction of the Radio-Frequency Identification in road tax would be done “soon”, hinting the stage may already be set for sweeping change.
