Mitsubishi Teases New Compact SUV Ahead of Geneva

Auto News

When it comes to Mitsubishi's products, they tend to be a little ahead of their time. The Lancer GT was a sedan that excelled when compared to its more contemporary rivals, but it came to the market just a little too early. The ASX too was a compact SUV that existed years before the Honda HR-V or the Toyota CH-R, and yet has features and practicality quite nearly comparable to the two.

But that's in the past. The upcoming Geneva Motor Show is providing Mitsubishi with the opportunity to show off their latest and greatest models, as well as concepts of cars to come. Ahead of the show, Mitsubishi is teasing a new compact SUV that some are saying could be called the Eclipse. It is proportionally larger than the ASX, and is not intended to replace the ASX, but rather sit somewhere between the ASX and the larger Outlander.

There are some hints of the XR-PHEV Concept in this teaser, and Mitsubishi's growing expertise with plug-in hybrids means that there's likely going to be a variant with this new model as well. It's also about time for Mitsubishi to step up in terms of design language and features, and this new model may be their chance to shine. The model, if it comes to market, will be aimed directly at the Honda HR-V and the Toyota CH-R.
