Production Spec 2017 Mitsubishi XM Caught On Camera In Indonesia

Auto News

Production version of the Mitsubishi XM, which was previewed as the XM Concept at the 2016 Gaikindo Indonesia International Motor Show, has been caught testing in Indonesia.

Expected to carry the Mitsubishi XM nameplate, a heavily camouflaged protoype was spotted undergoing road testing in Bandung, Indonesia, wearing what appears to be a production-ready body. The new model is developed primarily for the ASEAN region.

Mitsubishi earlier stated that the production Mitsubishi XM will carry over 80% of the styling cues of the concept car.

The spied Mitsubishi XM is still covered in camouflage, though we can see that some design elements from the XM Concept managed to find its way to the production model. For example, the character line that flows along the doors appear to have been carried over to the production version. The rear end is still heavily masked, though we believe that the actual Mitsubishi XM will retain the concept's stylish D-pillar.

Similar to its rivals, power is expected to come from a 1.5-litre petrol engine that sends drive to the front wheels. A diesel variant could be on the cards as Suzuki Indonesia recently introduced a diesel-powered variant of the Ertiga. Mitsubishi recently opened a new production plant in Indonesia to gear up for the new MPV's assembly.

The upcoming Mitsubishi XM is set to rival the Honda BR-V, Toyota Avanza and Suzuki Ertiga when it goes official later this year. Elsewhere, the Mitsubishi XM could underpin the next-generation Nissan Grand Livina, as Nissan holds a 34% stake in Mitsubishi.
