Subaru Teases Production-Ready Ascent Ahead Of LA Auto Show

Auto News

While Subaru has been talking about the Ascent as early as April's New York International Auto Show, thus far we have only been treated to photos of a concept. Subaru has just released a teaser photo confirming that the production-ready Ascent will be making its debut at the upcoming LA Auto Show on November 28th.

For those not in the know, the Subaru Ascent is a 7-seater SUV- which will be based on the Subaru Global Platform that underpins the Impreza and XV. It's a properly big SUV for the brand, and an interesting segment for it to go into given that it has been primarily known for wagons and road-going rally cars.

If Subaru stays true to its word, the Ascent will receing a turbocharged direct-injection boxer engine, although capacities are still unknown. It's not likely that the FA20T turbocharged 2.0-litre flat four from the Subaru Forester and WRX would be the engine of choice, as apparently it is a new engine that will be powering the Ascent.

Based on images that we've seen, it will be a 2 + 2 + 3 configuration, with 3 seats in the third row- something a little more difficult in practice given limitations on exterior width and overall dimensions. Still though, if Subaru manages to pull it off it will certainly be an interesting new contender.
