Toyota Calya and Daihatsu Sigra Launched In Indonesia – 7-Seater Perodua Axia/Bezza

Auto News

PT Toyota Astra Motor and PT Astra Daihatsu Motor have jointly launched the Toyota Calya and Daihatsu Sigra twins in Indonesia earlier today.

Manufactured by Daihatsu at their Karawang plant with a local content ratio of 94 percent, the 7-seater Sigra/Calya is jointly developed by Toyota and Daihatsu, primarily for the Indonesian market.

Powered by a 3NR-VE 1.2-litre Dual VVT-i engine, the Sigra/Calya qualifies for duty exemptions under Indonesia’s Low Cost Green Car (LCGC) initiative. The Daihatsu Sigra has an additional option of a 1.0-litre 1KR-VE VVT-i engine.

The seven-seater Sigra/Calya twins are an extension of the A-Segment 1.0-litre Toyota Agya/Daihatsu Ayla twins, and if you could ignore the badging, our Perodua Axia.

Given that the Perodua Bezza sedan is based on the Axia, one could also say that the Sigra/Calya, Agya/Ayla/Axia, and Bezza are all part of the same family.

Prices range from IDR 106-149 million for the Daihatsu Sigra and IDR 130-150 million for the Toyota Calya. In comparison, the cheapest Toyota Avanza 1.3-litre Manual starts from IDR 183 million in Indonesia.

Being a low-cost car, safety features for the Sigra/Calya are quite limited, with dual front airbags and ABS reserved only for the higher variant models.

For now, the Calya/Sigra are only available in Indonesia.
