UMW Toyota Motor (UMWT) has officially launched the all-new 2026 Toyota Yaris Cross in Malaysia, marking Toyota’s first non-national B-segment five-seater crossover SUV in the local market.

Positioned below the Corolla Cross in Toyota’s growing SUV line-up, the new locally assembled crossover enters the increasingly competitive B-segment SUV space with both conventional petrol and hybrid electric powertrain options.

For the Malaysian market, the Yaris Cross is offered in two variants, namely the Yaris Cross 1.5S and the Yaris Cross 1.5S Hybrid. Both variants are assembled locally at Toyota’s Bukit Raja production facility in Shah Alam, Selangor.

Pricing for the new Toyota Yaris Cross lineup is as follows (on-the-road without insurance):

  • Toyota Yaris Cross 1.5S – RM99,900
  • Toyota Yaris Cross 1.5S Hybrid – RM109,900

Dimensionally, the SUV measures 4,310 mm long, 1,770 mm wide, and 1,615 mm tall, with a wheelbase of 2,525 mm. This places it directly within the same segment as rivals such as the Honda HR-V, Proton X50, Mitsubishi Xforce, and Chery Omoda 5.

Design-wise, the Yaris Cross adopts a rugged and SUV-inspired appearance compared to the hatchback-based Yaris sold in selected overseas markets. The front fascia features a large trapezoidal grille flanked by slim LED headlamps and daytime running lights, while the profile gains pronounced wheel arches, roof rails, and 18-inch two-tone alloy wheels to emphasise its crossover positioning.

At the rear, slim LED combination lamps extend towards the edges of the body to visually enhance the vehicle’s width, while the sloping rear cabin and flared fenders contribute to a more planted appearance.

Powering the standard Yaris Cross 1.5S is a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated four-cylinder petrol engine producing 106 PS and 138 Nm of torque. Drive is sent to the front wheels through a D-CVT automatic transmission.

Meanwhile, the range-topping Yaris Cross 1.5S Hybrid adopts Toyota’s fourth-generation hybrid electric system, pairing a 1.5-litre petrol engine with an electric motor setup for improved efficiency and smoother urban driving characteristics.

Combined system output is rated at 111 PS, while Toyota claims fuel economy figures of between 27.8 km/l and 33.3 km/l based on internal testing. Drivers are also able to operate the vehicle in EV mode at low speeds under certain driving conditions.

Unlike a fully electric vehicle, the hybrid battery system is self-charging and does not require external charging infrastructure, with energy regenerated during deceleration and braking.

Inside, the cabin features a 10.1-inch infotainment touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, paired with a 7-inch TFT multi-information display. Other convenience features include dual rear USB-C charging ports, full LED interior lighting, and a wireless smartphone charger for the hybrid variant.

The Yaris Cross also places strong emphasis on practicality, offering up to 471 litres of luggage capacity alongside an underfloor storage compartment. Toyota says the cargo area is capable of accommodating up to six suitcases, depending on size.

Toyota Safety Sense is included as standard for both variants, bringing a suite of advanced driver assistance systems such as Pre-Collision System, Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Departure Alert, Lane Keep Control, Automatic High Beam, Blind Spot Monitor, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Panoramic View Monitor, and Clearance Sonar.

Both variants of the Yaris Cross are available in five exterior colour options, namely Dark Turquoise SE, Silver Metallic, Attitude Black, Spicy Scarlet SE, and Platinum Pearl White, with the latter offered as a premium paint option.

As standard, the Yaris Cross comes with a five-year, unlimited-mileage vehicle warranty. For the hybrid variant, Toyota also provides an eight-year, unlimited-mileage warranty covering the hybrid battery, inverter, and power management control ECU.

Customers may also opt for an additional two-year extended hybrid warranty package, bringing total hybrid system coverage up to 10 years, with the package remaining transferable to subsequent owners.
