2017 New Porsche 911 GT3 Slashes Nuburgring Laptime by 12.3 Seconds

The facelifted Porsche 911 GT3, or as Porschephiles will refer to it – the 911 GT3.2 has just smashed the outgoing GT3’s record by a staggering 12.3 seconds around the legendary Nurburgring Nordschleife track.

The new 911 GT3, launched earlier in the year, completed the tight, twisty 20.6 km track in a blistering 7 minutes 12.7 seconds, piloted by Porsche test driver Lars Kern.

Andreas Preuninger, Director of Porsche’s GT Product Line added, “A few years ago, lap times like this could only ever be achieved by thoroughbred racing cars with slick tyres. The new GT3 can now achieve this with comparatively modest power, but is still fully suited to everyday use.”

The 911 GT3 also relies on a 500hp high-revving, naturally aspirated 4.0-litre engine, which is also used in the 911 GT3 Cup racing car.

The record setting car was in standard trim, featuring the seven-speed Porsche PDK gearbox, rear-axle steering and wearing Michelin Sport Cup 2 N1 tyres.
