Auto Shanghai 2025: GWM ORA Good Cat GT spotted soon before Malaysian introduction

Auto News

Great Wall Motors at the ongoing Auto Shanghai has again brought out the ORA Good Cat GT following Great Wall Motor (GWM) Malaysia’s last week reveal that it will also add this sportier model to the local line-up, and soon.

Closer to home, the Good Cat GT has been gracing the GWM showrooms in Thailand for quite some time, where the car’s more powerful front-mounted electric motor delivers 171PS and 250Nm of torque - a noticeable upgrade over the standard model’s 143PS and 210Nm output.

GWM Thailand retails the ORA Good Cat GT at 1,099,000 Thai Baht, equivalent to around RM145k, and indications point to Malaysia receiving a similar specification as well.

Both variants sold in Thailand use an updated 57.7kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery, though the regular model edges out slightly on range with up to 480 km on the NEDC cycle, compared to 460 km for the GT. However, the GT does get a unique launch control mode.

As you might’ve guessed, the Good Cat GT is essentially a sportier, more aggressive take on the brand’s compact electric vehicle (EV), distinguished by its bolder front bumper design, flared wheel arches, and side skirts – all treated with a carbon-fibre-style finish for added flair.

On the outside, you’ll also find GT-specific badges, a larger rear spoiler, a rear diffuser, striking yellow brake callipers, and 18-inch dual-tone alloy wheels.

The sporty touches continue inside, where the cabin gets bright contrast accents, GT-embroidered sport seats, and a mix of suede and leather upholstery to complete the racy vibe. That said, we suspect the car runs pretty light in terms of suspension or chassis tweaks to deliver a more involved ride and handling package over the standard car.

In Malaysia, the standard ORA Good Cat is offered in two variants: the 400 Pro, priced at RM114,500 (on-the-road, without insurance), packs a 47.8kWh LFP battery good for 400 km (NEDC), while the 500 Ultra, at RM144,500, comes with a larger 63.1kWh NMC battery capable of 500 km (NEDC). Given its positioning in Thailand, expect the GT to carry a premium over both local variants.
