Spyshot: 2017 Volkswagen Tiguan Undisguised On The Streets Of Kuantan

Auto News

The all-new 2017 Volkswagen Tiguan looks set to debut soon as an undisguised unit running on trade plates was spotted on the streets of Kuantan by our friends from Funtasticko.

Confirmed for launch and local-assembly in Malaysia within this year, the all-new second-generation Tiguan debuted globally at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show and officially went on sale in Germany last April.

Underpinned by Volkswagen’s modular MQB platform, the 2017 Tiguan is available with a range of petrol and diesel four-cylinder turbo engines pushing out between 115 and 240PS. Front- and all-wheel drive configurations are available.

The unit seen here wears a 280 TSI badge on the boot lid, suggesting a likelihood that it is being powered by the 150PS/250Nm 1.4 TSI engine mated to a six-speed dual clutch transmission. The absence of ‘4Motion’ labels further suggest that this is a FWD unit. That being said, this does not preclude the possibility of other variants in the works.

Other noteworthy powertrains available with the Tiguan include a pair of 2.0-litre TSI mills at 180PS/320Nm and 220PS/350Nm, both of which come standard with all-wheel drive.

A plug-in hybrid version is in the works too, putting a 1.4-litre TSI engine to work alongside an electric motor to yield a net system output of 218PS with rated fuel consumption of 1.9 litres/100km in the combined cycle.
