An incident last weekend involving a foreign worker at a car wash being verbally abused and physically assaulted by the owner of a luxury SUV for sitting in his car while cleaning it garnered outcry once the CCTV footage was made public.

Following the man’s subsequent arrest under Section 325 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing grievous hurt, the Magistrate’s Court ordered the businessman to pay RM5,000 in damages to the Bangladeshi worker and his employer.

He was ordered to pay in cash on the same day and to publicly apologise to the victim, Shaheb Ali, and his employer, Haziyati Abdul Hamid, writes Bernama.

Magistrate Ellyana Razali made the order after the accused Mohd Risamuddin Ab Wahab, the victim Shaheb Ali and his employer Haziyati Abdul Hamid reached an agreement to the effect as provided for under Section 260 of the Criminal Procedure Code.

During the court proceedings, the accused, who is from Sunway Alam Suria, Section U10, had pleaded guilty to the charges leveled against him for his conduct at around 12.45pm on October 17th at Master Clean Car Care at No.30H Jalan Dinar F U3/F, Taman Subang Perdana, Kampung Baharu Subang.

Under Section 325 of the Penal Code, Risamuddin was liable to be fined and jailed up to seven years. Deputy public prosecutor Rustam Sanip informed the court about the consent agreement between the two parties as the Section (325) allowed restitution to be made.
