Mazda Ignores Dieselgate, Announces Diesel Engine for US

Mazda Motor Corporation has announced at the ongoing Los Angeles Auto Show that it will be offering a 2.2-litre SkyActiv-D ‘clean’ diesel engine in the all-new Mazda CX-5 for North America.

Well, the engine is not that new actually. It is in fact, the same one that is offered here in the diesel variants of the CX-5 and the Mazda 6

Set to be available from the second half of 2017, the introduction of the diesel engine turns out to be a big deal because it will be Mazda's first diesel engine model in the North American market.

According to Mazda, it will meet the American region's strict emission standards and make the all-new CX-5 one of the most fuel-efficient vehicles in its class.

It is said that the engine also adopts a ‘Natural Sound Smoother’ and ‘Natural Sound Frequency Control’, which are proprietary technologies that reduce diesel knock sound for a quieter and more pleasing sound.

"We're confident this engine offers a smart new option for North American drivers who want both performance and fuel economy," said Akira Marumoto, Mazda's Executive Vice President and Representative Director.

Well, let us hope that the engine is really as clean and efficient as Mazda claims it to be, and doesn't end up breaking any rules like a few other brands that shall not be named at this moment.
