Mercedes-Benz GLE 580 4Matic Hybrid Unveiled – 48V Hybrid, EQ Boost

所有资讯

Mercedes-Benz has further expanded the global GLE model range with the introduction of the 48V mild-hybrid Mercedes-Benz GLE 580 4Matic. The GLE is the second model in the SUV lineup to gain the powertrain after the flagship GLS.

At the heart of the GLE 580 4Matic is a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 with a 48-volt onboard electrical system and integrated starter generator (ISG). The ISG is responsible for energy recuperation and also provides additional power in EQ Boost mode for short periods depending on the driving conditions. The GLS 580’s power is rated at 489 hp and 700 Nm, with an additional 22 hp/250 Nm available from the EQ Boost function.

The ISG eliminates the need for a belt drive for ancillary components at the front of the engine, which reduces its overall length. The slim design of the engine, together with the physical separation of the intake/exhaust, creates space for a close-coupled exhaust after treatment. The 48 V onboard electrical system also provides power for the water pump and air-conditioning compressor.

Another highlight of the GLE, courtesy of the 48V onboard electrical architecture is the optional Mercedes-Benz E-Active Body Control, which among other things can even make the rather large GLE dance

The GLE 580 is equipped as standard with variable the 4Matic all-wheel drive system, Airmatic active suspension, and the latest version of the Mercedes-Benz User Experience (MBUX) multimedia system with voice and gesture control.

The GLE 580 4Matic goes on sale in the US later this year.
