Codenamed P300, the new engine brings the Velar’s number of engine options to six, which includes:

  • P300: 2.0-litre petrol, 300hp, 400Nm (new)
  • D180: 2.0-litre diesel, 180hp, 430Nm
  • D240: 2.0-litre diesel, 240hp, 500Nm
  • D300: 3.0-litre V6 diesel, 300hp, 700Nm
  • P250: 2.0-litre petrol, 250hp, 365Nm
  • P380: 3.0-litre V6 petrol, 380hp, 450Nm

All the engines mentioned above, including the new one which enables the SUV to do the century sprint in 5.7 seconds, are paired to ZF’s eight-speed automatic transmission which sends power to all four wheels.

Produced at Jaguar Land Rover’s £1 billion Engine Manufacturing Centre in Wolverhampton, UK, highlight features of the P300 engine includes a twin scroll turbo with ceramic ball bearings which reduce friction, and a high flow compressor wheel which delivers 26 per cent more air.

Equipped with Intelligent Driveline Dynamics technology, the Range Rover Velar comes with four-corner air suspension, 251mm maximum ground clearance, 650mm-deep water wading capability, as well as the optional All Terrain Progress Control.

In the cabin, the Velar’s centre stack consists of a rectangular touchscreen controlling the infotainment system sitting atop a similarly smooth touch surface to operate the climate control system. A rear seat entertainment system with 8” screens embedded inside both front head rests is available as an optional add-on.

As we reported earlier, the Velar is all set to make its way to Malaysia soon, but there is no official indication on which engine is being earmarked for Malaysia.
