The left lane of Sultan Iskandar Highway - formerly known as Lebuhraya Mahameru – that heads toward Muzium Negara has been closed for the time being due to the settling of soil causing a sag in the road surface.

The NST reports that it occurred near the Parliament building where beneath the road the construction of a Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) tunnel is underway.

Sixteen firemen and two fire engines were sent to the location after the City Fire and Rescue Department received the call at 6.34pm yesterday, as Azizan Ismail, assistant director (operations), told the daily.

The report also said that an assessment found that other parts of the road stretch remain safe for traffic, as told by the contractor responsible for the tunnel project to city traffic police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Nadzri Hussain.

City Hall stated that repair works on the affected area will commence by this morning (3rd June) at the latest, according to the information Mohd Nadzri received.
