Indonesia to get Mitsubishi Xforce HEV with 1.6L hybrid system, almost similar pricing to the non-hybrid model?

Auto News

The Mitsubishi Xforce HEV is set to make its Indonesian debut soon, but ahead of its official launch, a possible price figure for the electrified SUV has already surfaced.

Before we look at the potential prices, let's look at what's different. The biggest update, of course, is the hybrid powertrain. The system pairs a 1.6-litre Atkinson-cycle petrol engine producing 107 PS and 134 Nm with a front-mounted electric motor delivering 116 PS and 255 Nm - 11 PS and 114 Nm more than the non-hybrid Xforce.

Like Honda's e:HEV system, the petrol engine primarily serves as a generator under most driving conditions, while the electric motor handles most propulsion. At higher cruising speeds, the engine can also drive the wheels directly to improve efficiency.

According to GridOto, the Mitsubishi Xforce HEV could be priced at Rp 440 million (around RM 99,100) for the range-topping variant, based on information from a Mitsubishi dealer source.

For reference, the current non-hybrid Mitsubishi Xforce range in Indonesia is priced from around Rp 390 million to Rp 434 million (around RM 87,800 to RM 97,800).

If the leaked Rp 440 million figure proves accurate, the Xforce HEV could carry a premium of just around Rp 6 million (RM 1,350), or approximately 1.4%, over the current top-spec petrol model.

However, Mitsubishi Motors Krama Yudha Sales Indonesia has yet to officially announce the Xforce HEV's pricing, meaning the final price difference could change once the model is launched.

To put things into perspective, the Xforce HEV made its debut in Thailand last year with three variants priced from 899,000 baht to 1,089,000 baht (around RM 110k to RM 133k).

While there's no non-hybrid Xforce on sale in Thailand, its closest competitor, the Toyota Veloz, is priced from 795,000 baht (around RM 97k). That makes the base Xforce HEV roughly 13% more expensive than the non-hybrid Veloz.

In Malaysia, the Mitsubishi Xforce was launched earlier this year in locally assembled (CKD) form, offered in Urban and Ultimate variants priced at RM 109,980 and RM 119,980, respectively.

Both variants are powered by a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated MIVEC petrol engine producing 105 PS and 141 Nm, paired with a CVT. For now, Mitsubishi Motors Malaysia has yet to announce plans to introduce the Xforce HEV locally.

However, with Indonesia set to become the latest ASEAN market to receive the hybrid variant after Thailand, the possibility of the electrified SUV making its way to Malaysia in the future appears stronger, especially when you consider that the non-hybrid Xforce received over 2,600 bookings before its launch.
