Chery Tiggo 9 launched in Malaysia – Priced from RM 166,800, premium 7-seater, 2.0 TGDi, 7-DCT
所有资讯Following its preview in May, Chery Malaysia has launched its latest flagship model, the Chery Tiggo 9. Prices start from RM 166,800 for the locally assembled (Kulim) family SUV.
Like the Tiggo 8 Pro, the Tiggo 9 is a D-segment 7-seater, powered by the same 2.0-litre turbocharged engine paired to a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission (DCT).
The biggest difference with the Tiggo 9 from the Tiggo 8 Pro is its more upmarket interior and all-wheel drive drivetrain, with four additional off-road Drive Modes – Snow, Mud, Sand, and Off-Road.
The additional upgrades push its selling price to RM 7,000 higher than the Tiggo 8 Pro, which has an identical price as the plug-in hybrid Tiggo 8 CSH.
To recap, Chery Auto Malaysia – the group’s holding company - now has five 3-row seat SUV models, including the six-seater Jaecoo J8 sold by its Omoda Jaecoo division. The models are priced as below:
- Chery Tiggo 8 1.6 TGDi: RM 129,800
- Chery Tiggo 8 Pro 2.0 TGDi: RM 159,800
- Chery Tiggo 8 CSH (1.5 TGDi PHEV): RM 159,800
- Chery Tiggo 9 2.0 TGDi: RM 166,800
- Jaecoo J8 2.0 AWD TGDi: RM 198,800 (six-seater)
Jetour, another brand under Chery, also has a 7-seater model, the Jetour VT9, priced from RM 119,200. However, Jetour is managed independently from Chery Corporate Malaysia. The latter only manages Chery, Omoda, Jaecoo, and iCaur.
What’s the difference between Tiggo 9 and Tiggo 8 Pro / Tiggo CSH and Jaecoo J8?
The simple way to understand the Tiggo 9 is this:
The Tiggo 9 is 7-seater alternative to the 6-seater Jaecoo J8, with a more luxurious interior that is closer to the Jaecoo J8.
It should also be pointed that Tiggo 8 Pro and Tiggo 8 CSH have different interiors. The latter adopts a newer, split-screen arrangement, similar to the Tiggo 9 and Jaecoo J8
Mechanically, the Tiggo 9 adds all-wheel drive, which is not available on the Tiggo 8 series.
Choosing between the three models is a matter of preference between the Tiggo 9’s more classic luxury vibe versus the Jaecoo J8’s more flamboyant vibe, as well as the combination between seating capacity and powertrain type.
The 7-seater Tiggo 8 Pro / Tiggo 8 CSH allows buyers to choose between conventional 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol and a 1.5-litre turbocharged plug-in hybrid, but neither comes with AWD.
The 6-seater Jaecoo J8 shares the same engine as the Tiggo 8 Pro and Tiggo 9, but it lacks PHEV option. The J8 also uses an 8-speed automatic transmission, versus the Tiggo and Tiggo 9’s 7-speed dual-clutch transmission.
The Tiggo 9 comes with AWD, but has no PHEV option, at least for now. In Indonesia, the Tiggo 9 is sold exclusively as a PHEV.
It’s unnecessarily complicated right? You are not alone. However, Chery believes that giving more options is better.

The vehicle is covered by a 7-year / 150,000 km warranty, while the engine itself is covered by a 10-year / 1 million km warranty. Owners also enjoy 5 years of free service.
For a limited time period, buyers can also opt for an all-inclusive ‘Prime’ package that includes:
- RM 3,000 worth of petrol subsidy
- 1 year free insurance worth RM 4,500
- RM 5,000 in cash rebate
The Chery Tiggo 9 with Prime package is priced at RM 179,800, or RM 13,000 more than the standard 'Flexi' package.
Only two exterior colours are available – Matte Grey and Carbon Black.
