Spied: 2017 Toyota 86 Facelift

Three years after the Toyota 86 went on sale, Toyota is expected to refresh the 86 with a new facelift model sometime late next year, as a 2017 model.

Typically, cars like the 86 don’t see a lot of changes mid-life cycle, so apart from some minor nip and tuck here and there, we don’t expect to see any significant changes to the 86. The spyshots posted by FT86Club.com seems to suggest so.

Hidden behind the ‘camo’ material appears to be a new front bumper and a new headlamp. The new headlamp now integrates turn signal lights function (outgoing model has a separate turn signal light) while the front air dam has been enlarged, requiring a new housing for the front fog lamps.

Behind, the rear fog light and reverse lights cluster also appears to have changed slightly, while the tail lights now feature LED lighting.

The twin tail pipes also seems to be slightly bigger than the ones fitted on the outgoing model.

The current car’s pole-type antenna has also been replaced with a fin-type unit.

The car seen here is fitted with 17-inch wheels and a rear spoiler, suggesting that it is the higher-range GT Limited variant, which comes with a mechanical LSD (assuming the current model’s grade line-up remains unchanged).

The rear spoiler is also different from the ones fitted on the current 86 GT Limited model.

We expect the new 86 to go on sale in Japan sometime between late-2016 and mid-2017.
