Introduced in 2002, the Mercedes-Benz W211 E-Class marked a further evolution of its predecessor, and the W211-based C219 CLS-Class 4-door coupe emerged in 2005 as a niche model aimed at attracting a younger demographic. In June 2006, the W211 E-Class underwent a facelift for the 2007 model year to address quality and technical issues identified in earlier models. This update saw the removal of Sensotronic, while Pre-Safe (without brake support) became a standard feature. The E500, the largest factory-built engine in the E Class car range such as the Mercedes E200k, experienced an increase in engine size from 5 liters to 5.5 liters in 2006, resulting in the E550 designation. The lineup also included AMG models labeled E55 and E63, featuring tuning house installations alongside the official AMG versions.
The E-Class lineup in Malaysia was initially limited to the Mercedes E200K and E280 models. However, with the introduction of the E230 to bridge the significant gap between the two models, Mercedes-Benz Malaysia was able to slightly modify the E280's specifications. This new model, the Mercedes-Benz E280 AMG Sports Package, is the outcome.

Mercedes-Benz E-Class (W212 Generation)

The W212-generation was the fourth-generation model, and it faced the challenge of following the W211 E-Class, which had a problematic history with electrical faults and uninspiring styling compared to its contemporary E60-generation 5 Series. The W212 marked a return to strengths in terms of design, engineering, and reliability.

Introduced to the Malaysian market in 2009, the W212 initially featured the locally-assembled 3.0-litre naturally-aspirated (V6) E300 Avantgarde. Soon after, the Mercedes E200 CGI BlueEfficiency joined the lineup with a "latest-generation" 1.8-litre turbocharged four-cylinder, producing 184 bhp and 270 Nm. This BlueEfficiency engine replaced the older 1.8-litre supercharged "Kompressor" engines, which initiated the era of downsized turbocharging in the E-Class.

While Mercedes-Benz did not offer as diverse a variant range as they do today, the Mercedes E200 and E300 were positioned to compete with rivals like the (F10) BMW 5 Series and (C7) Audi A6. The pre-facelift Mercedes E250 later expanded the range.

In 2013, the facelifted version was introduced, initially offering the Mercedes E200, E250, or E250 CGI  in Avantgarde trim. The facelift included a more elegant and up-to-date design, along with the introduction of the new (M274) 2.0-litre turbocharged four-pot engine. The E200 now developed 184hp and 300Nm, while the Mercedes E250 produced 211hp and 350Nm. Both models featured a 7-speed automatic transmission sending power to the rear wheels.

In 2015, Mercedes-Benz Malaysia presented the E-Class Edition E as a farewell to the W212 ahead of the W213-generation's arrival. Despite largely unchanged prices, the Edition E variants offered additional sporty equipment such as 18-inch wheels, AMG Line exterior kit, larger brakes, and additional interior enhancements to rejuvenate the model.

2022 Mercedes-Benz E 200 Avantgarde (W213)

Mercedes-Benz Malaysia (MBM) recently launched the 2021 facelift Mercedes-Benz E-Class (W213) Avantgarde E200 and E300 AMG Line. The E-Class, a benchmark for executive sedans in Malaysia since the early nineties, has undergone five generations, each building on the prestige of its predecessor. The latest facelift features two variants, E200 Avantgarde and E300 AMG Line, both locally assembled in Pekan.

Introduced globally in March 2020, the facelifted Mercedes Benz E-Class (W213) boasts intelligence, luxury, performance, innovation, and precision. Notable changes include a thinner front grille, redesigned LED headlights with L-shaped daytime running lights, and distinctive grille designs for the E200 and E300 variants. The Mercedes E300 exhibits a more aggressive bumper, while the E200 maintains a classy appearance.

The facelifted model also introduces two new colors, Grey Metallic and High-Tech Silver. The E200 Avantgarde features High Performance LED headlights and 18-inch five-spoke wheels, while the Mercedes E300 AMG Line comes with Multibeam LED headlights and 19-inch AMG rims.

Inside, the facelifted Mercedes-Benz E-Class is equipped with the latest MBUX multimedia system, displayed through two 12.3-inch screens. The system includes Mercedes Me connection services, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay connectivity, and a wireless charger (exclusive to the E300 AMG Line).

Additional interior features include a new multifunction steering wheel, dual-zone air conditioning, ambient lighting, adjustable power seats with memory function, and Artico leather-wrapped seats for the E200 Avantgarde. The E300 AMG Line adds a panoramic sunroof, three-zone air conditioning, a Burmester sound system, and AMG floor mats.

The 2021 E-Class incorporates the latest Mercedes-Benz assistance systems, enhancing active safety. The hands-off recognition now operates on a capacitive basis, and the E 200 Avantgarde and E300 AMG Line come with Active Brake Assist as standard. The E300 AMG Line variant offers Active Parking Assist with Parktronic and a 360° camera.

A notable feature is the introduction of Mercedes' Urban Guard, providing all-around monitoring for security and property protection. The Urban G Vehicle Protection package includes an anti-theft alarm system, tow-away protection, and theft or parking damage notifications through the Mercedes Me app.

Prices start from RM326,943 for the E 200 Avantgarde and RM375,432 for the E300 AMG Line, inclusive of the sales tax exemption until December 31, 2021. Both models come with a four-year, unlimited warranty. Mercedes-Benz Malaysia is also offering a limited-time Step Up Agility Financing Plan, with monthly payments starting from RM2,388 for the E 200 Avantgarde and RM2,988 for the E300 AMG Line.

The Mercedes E53 AMG lineup is sporty, handsome, and thoroughly engaging to drive. For 2023, it continues to be offered in sedan, coupe, and cabriolet body styles, each of them a satisfying combination of precise engineering, refined luxury, and solid performance. What separates the E53 from the regular Benz-branded E-class is its athleticism, which can be seen, felt, and heard.

The Mercedes E350, an addition to the E200 SportStyle Avantgarde and E300 Exclusive Line. The new M264 2.0 liter turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine, nine-speed 9G-Tronic automatic transmission, 48-volt electrical system, belt-driven starter-alternator, and electric water pump make up the mild hybrid powertrain of the E350.

2024 Mercedes-Benz E-Class (W214)

The sixth-generation Mercedes Benz EClass W214 was introduced to the Malaysian market in April 2023, anticipating the launch of its rival, the BMW 5 Series. Spanning over 75 years, the E-Class has set the standard for mid-range luxury sedans. The 2023 release aimed to lead the transition from combustion engines to electric powertrains.

The Mercedes-Benz W214 E-Class featured changed dimensions, measuring 4,949 mm in length, 1,880 mm in width, and 1,468 mm in height, with an extended wheelbase of 2,961 mm. This increase in size resulted in a more spacious interior and an expanded luggage capacity of 540 liters. The exterior design retained the recognizable three-box sedan shape, with new elements such as a black high-gloss insert in the front fascia and redesigned LED headlights.

The powertrain options included three mild-hybrid engines and three petrol-electric hybrids, all featuring a longitudinally-mounted four-cylinder turbocharged configuration. The petrol-electric PHEV sedan models included the Mercedes E300 e, E300 e 4Matic, and E 400 e 4Matic. These models offered varying power outputs and electric-only ranges, equipped with a 25.4 kWh lithium-ion battery.

The interior of the W214 E-Class was characterized by an abundance of screens, featuring the Superscreen infotainment display system. This optional system included a front passenger screen, a central display, and a high-resolution driver's display. An entertainment suite with third-party apps was available, including TikTok, Angry Birds, Webex, Zoom, and the Vivaldi browser.

In terms of safety, the Mercedes-Benz W214 E-Class was equipped with the latest in active safety technology, including Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) such as Active Distance Assist, Attention Assist, Active Brake Assist, Active Lane Keeping Assist, Parking Package with a reverse camera, and Speed Limit Assist. Notably, the Attention Assist function included a driver distraction alert, providing audible and visual warnings to the driver. The Active Emergency Stop Assist function would automatically bring the car to a stop if the driver did not respond to the alerts.
