iCaur 03 now locally assembled in Shah Alam; iWD variant only, from RM129,880

iCaur Malaysia has announced that the iCaur 03 has officially entered its local assembly (CKD) phase, around eight months after it first made its debut here as a fully imported (CBU) model.

The boxy battery electric (BEV) SUV is now being assembled at the Chery Corporate Malaysia plant in Shah Alam, with the first batch of CKD units expected to arrive at iCaur dealerships nationwide by the end of this month.

While the imported model was available in both single-motor 2WD and dual-motor Intelligent Wheel Drive (iWD) variants, the locally assembled version is currently offered only in iWD form. Pricing starts from RM129,880 on-the-road without insurance, representing a marginal RM80 increase over the equivalent CBU version. As for the 2WD variant, it remains available only for existing 2025 model year units, previously priced at RM119,800.

Buyers can also opt for the Black Phantom Edition package, which is retained for the CKD model at an additional RM20,000. It adds an exclusive exterior body kit, matte black finish, roof rack platform, and side ladder for a more distinctive appearance.

To sweeten the deal, every purchase of the CKD 03 includes a 7 kW AC home charger (worth RM3,400) as well as complimentary scheduled maintenance for two years or 45,000 km.

There are no changes to the specifications. As before, the iWD variant features a dual-motor setup with one electric motor mounted on each axle, delivering a combined 279 PS and 385 Nm of torque. Power comes from a 69.8-kWh LFP battery pack, which provides a claimed range of up to 418 km based on NEDC standards.

Charging capabilities remain unchanged too, with support for DC fast charging at up to 80 kW and AC charging at up to 6.6 kW. The SUV also retains its 3.2 kW Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) functionality, allowing owners to power compatible electronic devices and appliances directly from the vehicle.

Other highlights include a 15.6-inch infotainment touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, ventilated front and rear seats, and a panoramic glass sunroof. Exclusive to the iWD variant are massaging front seats and a 12-speaker Infinity sound system.

On the safety front, the iCaur 03 comes standard with six airbags, a 540-degree camera system with transparent chassis view, and a suite of Level 2 advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS). These include autonomous emergency braking, front collision warning, adaptive cruise control, and traffic jam assist.

According to iCaur Malaysia, the 03 has resonated well with Malaysians looking for something beyond the typical electric SUV experience, with 547 units registered in April alone.

While I wouldn’t label myself a hardcore petrolhead, I’ve always had a deep appreciation for cars and the simple joy of driving. For me, getting behind the wheel is a therapeutic escape.
