2020: An Upgrade to the Toyota Alphard & Vellfire Premium MPVs

The 2020 upgrades to the Alphard and Vellfire premium MPV models have brought about several significant enhancements. The Alphard will have two variants, Alphard 3.5L and Alphard 3.5L Executive Lounge, with the Toyota Alphard car price in Malaysia of RM465,000. Both models are completely built-up (CBU) imports from Japan and come in a variety of exterior colors.

The major improvements are in the areas of Safety and Connectivity, aligning with UMWT's 360-T New Brand Experience Strategy focusing on Safe-T and Connectivi-T. The new or upgraded systems include Toyota Safety Sense (TSS), a suite of advanced safety features like Pre-collision System, Lane Departure Alert, Lane Tracing Assist, and Dynamic Radar Cruise Control. Additionally, a Parking Support Brake System aids in intelligent parking by detecting objects during parking and automatically applying brakes to prevent collisions. The 2020 Toyota Alphard models also feature a 9-inch AVX Infotainment System with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity.

Another notable addition is the Front & Rear Digital Video Recorder (DVR) for recording views around the vehicle, serving as evidence in case of incidents or disputes. The exterior showcases a broad, mainly dark chrome grille design with tri-LED headlights, LED DRLs, sequential LED indicator lights, and LED fog lights. Four body color options are available, and the Alphard boasts 19-inch dual-tone wheels.

Inside the vehicle, the cabin exudes opulence with Nappa leather seats, a wood-veneered leather steering wheel with heating, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, heads-up display, and a 14-inch infotainment screen equipped with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity. Sound is delivered through a JBL 15-speaker system. The front passenger and driver seats offer power adjustments, heating, and ventilation. The cabin features glossy black housing with champagne-colored trim, dark brown leather upholstery, and Uzuramoku wood detailing. Buyers can choose between Beige and Black cabin finishes for its interior for the new 2023 Toyota Alphard.

In the second row, there are captain seats, named Executive Lounge VIP seats, with fully-electric adjustments and a one-touch Relax Power Recline mode. Ottoman seats provide a massage function for added comfort. Second- and third-row legroom is increased by 5 mm and 100 mm, respectively. The rear passengers have controls and entertainment options, including two remote controls for seat positions, heating, ventilation, air-conditioning, sunshade, and a 14-inch ceiling-mounted screen. The 2023 Toyota Alphard is equipped with a new 2.4-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine producing 278 PS and 430 Nm of torque, paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission powering the front wheels. It offers improved fuel economy at 9.0 liters per 100 km. The vehicle shares the TNGA-K platform with the 2023 Vellfire and features enhanced body rigidity, while its shock absorbers adapt to road vibrations to enhance ride comfort. Memory foam is used in backrests and armrests, and rubber bushings within the cushion frames reduce vibrations by 30% compared to previous models.

Safety features include 6 airbags and the Toyota Safety Sense (TSS) 3.0 ADAS suite with enhancements like intersection support for the pre-collision system (PCS). It also includes lane departure alert (LDA), dynamic radar cruise control (DRCC), road sign assist (RSA), adaptive high-beam system (AHS), blind spot monitor, and rear cross-traffic alert (BSM, RCTA).
