Lane departure warning Lane Departure Warning (LDW) is a safety feature in vehicles that helps prevent accidents caused by unintentional lane drifting or veering. It uses a camera or sensors to monitor the vehicle's position within the lane markings on the road. If the system detects that the vehicle is drifting out of the lane without signaling, it alerts the driver through visual, audible, or tactile warnings, such as vibrating the steering wheel or seat. LDW is designed to enhance driver awareness and reduce the risk of accidents due to unintended lane departures.
