2,000,000th Land Rover Defender Celebrated With Specially-Made Model

Think of any off-road vehicle and the Land Rover Defender springs into mind. The go anywhere do anything vehicle has been an icon for many years, with its services employed worldwide from military outfits to humanitarian relief efforts.

In celebration of the 67 years of Land Rover production, Jaguar Land Rover has commissioned a bespoke, one-of-a-kind 2,000,000th Defender with the invitation of special guests to be part of the production process as a tribute to nearly seven decades of Land Rover production in the Solihull plant, situated in the United Kingdom.

Part of this ensemble production stars include star of the Man vs. Wild television show and adventurer, Bear Grylls, sons of Land Rover founders Maurice and Spencer Wilks, and Tim Slessor, crew member of the first Overland Expedition in 1955.

To stand out as the two millionth Defender, the vehicle features a map of Red Wharf Bay – where the design for the original Land Rover was first drawn, is engraved into the aluminium fender. A unique 'No. 2,000,000' badge sits on the rear of the vehicle while the rest of the exterior receives an Indus Silver satin paint and finished with Santorini Black wheels and wheel arches, roof, door hinges, grille and mirror caps. S90 HUE registration plates, which is a reference to the first ever pre-production Land Rover, registration 'HUE 166', complete the overall look.

Inside, the interior console features the same badging as well with the ‘Red Wharf Bay’ graphic on the leather seats and ‘No. 2,000,000’ stitched on the headrests. Those who had their hand in assembling the unique Defender also signed an aluminium plaque which is prominently displayed on the driver’s seat plinth.

Scheduled to be on display at this year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed, Defender 2,000,000 will later be auctioned off at the Bonhams auction house in New Bond Street, London on 16 December, with proceeds going towards the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) and the Born Free Foundation.
