2018 Porsche 911 GT2 RS Unveiled, Most Powerful 911 Ever

During the Goodwood Festival of Speed in the UK over the weekend, Porsche unveiled its most powerful 911 model ever, the 911 GT2 RS.

The 2018 Porsche 911 GT2 RS is powered by the turbocharged 3.8-litre flat-six found in the 911 Turbo S, though with power increased to a whopping 700 hp. Porsche achieved this by fitting onto the 911 GT2 RS larger turbochargers and a new additional cooling system. A seven-speed dual-clutch transmission (PDK) comes standard, allowing the fastest 911 to hit the century mark in a mere 2.8 seconds, impressive for a rear-wheel drive model. Top speed is 340 km/h.

In terms of handling, the Porsche 911 GT2 RS receives 265/35ZR20 tires up front and 325/30ZR21 tires at the rear. On top of that, the 911 GT2 RS gets a racing chassis with rear-axle steering that helps improve cornering capabilities. Porsche Ceramic Composite Brakes (PCCB) come as standard on the new Porsche. To keep weight down, the front wings, wheel housing vents, exterior mirror shells, rear side section air intakes and parts of the rear end are made out of carbon-fibre reinforced plastic (CFRP). The bonnet is also made out of carbon to keep the 911 as lightweight as possible.

Optionally, Porsche is offering buyers of the 911 GT2 RS with the Weissach package, which shaves another 30 kg off the 1,470 kg 911 GT2 RS. The package includes additional hardware made out of CFRP and titanium. Those opting for the Weissach package get roof and anti-roll bars made out of carbon, plus the coupling rods on both axles. Magnesium wheels are also available. The luggage compartment lid and carbon-weave finished roof are emblazoned with a colour-matching central strip.

Moving inside, the Porsche 911 GT2 RS features red Alcantara, black leather and interior trim bits finished with a carbon-weave pattern as standard. The full bucket seats come in a carbon-weave finish. Like other 911 models, the Porsche Communication Management (PCM) takes control of the infotainment duties. As a track focused model, the Connect Plus module and Porsch Track Precision app are included as standard.

There is also the optional Chrono Package that allows the PCM to display, save and evaluate track times. Opting for the Chrono Package also includes a stopwatch on the switch panel with both analogue and digital display. On top of that, the Chrono Package also comes with a lap trigger that works in conjuction with the Porsche Track Precision app that works with an external market on a start/finish straight, allowing drivers to record lap times with better precision.

Porsche 911 GT2 RS owners can also order an exlcusive 911 GT2 RS Chronograph that can be ordered via a Porsche Centre.
