2025 BMW iX xDrive45 Sport, xDrive60 M Sport Pro debuts in Malaysia in facelift form, from RM426k

BMW Malaysia has officially launched the facelifted 2025 BMW iX, bringing a refreshed look, improved performance, and more range to the brand’s flagship electric….err…Sports Activity Vehicle (SAV). First revealed globally in January 2025, this updated iX arrives with two variants available to local buyers: the iX xDrive45 Sport and the range-topping iX xDrive60 M Sport Pro, pictured.

With this update, BMW has phased out the earlier xDrive40 and xDrive50 models, replacing them with these more powerful and efficient versions. The xDrive45 Sport now takes the place of the xDrive40, and the xDrive60 M Sport Pro steps in for the outgoing xDrive50. Both models come with enhanced battery capacities, electric motor upgrades, and several styling updates that align the iX more closely with BMW’s latest design language.

Starting with the xDrive45 Sport, the entry-level model is priced at RM425,800 with a standard two-year warranty. Customers who opt for the extended 5-year warranty and 6-year service package will pay RM460,700. This variant now boasts a larger 100.6 kWh battery pack compared to the 76.6 kWh unit used in the outgoing xDrive40. With the new setup, it delivers a WLTP-rated range of up to 602 km, significantly more than the 425 km range of its predecessor, but one can’t help but wonder how much more endurance could be extracted if BMW opted for a single-motor setup.

Instead, the dual-motor setup in the xDrive45 comprises a 258 PS front motor and a 272 PS rear motor, combining for a total system output of 408 PS and 700 Nm of torque. With all-wheel drive as standard, this allows the SUV to sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in just 5.1 seconds. Charging is also efficient; with AC power, the battery can be fully recharged in 5 hours using the onboard 22 kW charger, while DC fast charging at up to 175kW brings the battery from 10 to 80% in just 34 minutes.

For those seeking even more performance and equipment, the iX xDrive60 M Sport Pro is priced at RM487,800 (standard warranty) or RM522,700 with the extended package. It gets a larger 111.5 kWh battery that offers an impressive WLTP range of up to 701 km—an increase from the previous xDrive50’s already leggy 630 km. This version also gets slightly more powerful motors, with the rear motor outputting 313 PS. Combined, the system now generates 544 PS and 765 Nm, pushing the car from standstill to 100 km/h in 4.6 seconds.

Despite the extra power, the top speed for both variants remains electronically limited to just 200 km/h, so it will still gap an equivalent Volvo at full tilt. As with the previous model, the facelifted iX retains its adaptive two-axle air suspension system as standard equipment, ensuring a smooth and composed ride under all conditions.

Design-wise, the facelift brings subtle but impactful changes. The front of the iX now features newly designed adaptive LED headlamps that echo the brand’s “four-eyed” motif, seen on models like the iX2 and updated i4. These headlights incorporate vertically stacked daytime running lights with a slightly angled orientation for a more aggressive look.

BMW’s trademark kidney grille continues to dominate the front fascia, although it remains completely closed-off for aerodynamic efficiency. The grille now includes a diagonal line pattern and is illuminated by the Iconic Glow lighting package, which adds a dramatic visual signature at night.

Moving along the side, the SUV retains familiar elements such as rectangular wheel arches, flush door handles, and frameless doors. At the rear, the L-shaped taillights continue unchanged in form, but are now visually integrated with the reversing lights, reflectors, and fog lamps that sit lower in the bumper. The Sport exterior package that was previously optional is now standard for the xDrive45, with body-coloured triangular inserts replacing the black elements on the front bumper.

The xDrive45 Sport rides on 21-inch aerodynamic wheels finished in a dual-tone 3D polished buff style, while the xDrive60 M Sport Pro gets the full M treatment. This includes a revised front bumper with large vertical air curtains and a split lower intake design that recalls the aggressive styling of the latest BMW X3. The M Sport Pro rolls on 22-inch diamond-polished alloy wheels with a multicolour 3D finish, paired with red brake calipers and darkened lighting elements as part of the M Light Shadowline package.

Inside, the cabin of the facelifted iX remains largely unchanged but continues to impress with its blend of luxury and futuro-luxury quirk. Both variants come standard with the expansive Sky Lounge panoramic glass roof, ambient lighting, and a premium Harman/Kardon audio system with 18 speakers and 655 watts of amplification.

Additional amenities include a wireless smartphone charging pad, quad-zone automatic climate control, and the BMW Live Cockpit Professional suite, which includes a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a 14.9-inch central touchscreen running on the latest BMW Operating System 8.5.

On the safety and assistance front, the iX is comprehensively equipped with standard features include the Driving Assistant Professional suite, which offers adaptive cruise control with stop and go, steering and lane centering assistance, lane departure and change warning, autonomous emergency braking, traffic sign recognition, and active speed limit assist. Parking Assistant Plus is also standard, providing 360-degree camera views and automated parking functions.

There's just something about cars. It's a conveyance, it's a liability, it's a tool; but it can also be a source of joy, pride, inspiration and passion. It's much like clothes versus fashion. And like the latter, the pursuit of perfection never ends.
