2026 Denza B8 luxury PHEV off-roader set for Malaysian public debut 22-24 May at Bangsar Shopping Centre

BYD’s luxury brand DENZA is prepping for its grand entrance into Malaysia’s premium SUV market with the upcoming debut of the new B8, a rugged yet tech-heavy plug-in hybrid SUV that blends electrified performance with genuine off-road capability.

More importantly for local buyers, the DENZA B8 is has been officially open for registration of interest in Malaysia ahead of its first public appearance later this month. Customers eager to get an early look at the SUV can catch the model from 22 to 24 May 2026 at the Main Concourse, Ground Floor of Bangsar Shopping Centre, where it will be displayed daily from 10am to 10pm.

Built on a ladder-frame chassis and positioned as DENZA Malaysia’s first plug-in hybrid offering and their second model to hit our market, the B8 signals the brand’s expansion into the luxury off-road SUV segment while showcasing the latest electrified technologies developed under the wider BYD umbrella.

At the core of the SUV is BYD’s new DMO (Dual Mode Off-Road) Super Hybrid platform, a system specifically engineered to combine electrified efficiency with serious all-terrain capability. The setup pairs a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine with dual electric motors and BYD’s Blade Battery, producing a combined output of up to 612 PS and 760 Nm of torque.

With an energy storage capacity of up to 36.8kWh, DENZA says the B8 can travel up to 115 km purely on electric power, while total combined range is rated at up to 1,040 km under the NEDC cycle. Multiple drive configurations, including Pure EV, HEV Series and Parallel modes, work in the background to optimise performance, efficiency and traction depending on road and terrain conditions.

The B8 also introduces Malaysia to the brand’s DiSus-P Intelligent Hydraulic Body Control Suspension system. Designed to continuously adapt in real time, the advanced chassis setup actively manages body movement and suspension behaviour across uneven terrain, tight corners and varying road surfaces. Rather than relying solely on fixed drive modes, the system constantly adjusts based on speed, terrain feedback and vehicle dynamics to improve ride comfort and stability.

Visually, the DENZA B8 adopts what the company calls a “Starship Mecha” design language, giving the SUV a bold and futuristic appearance. We had a chance to see it up close at the recent 2026 Beijing Motor Show, where it was featured under the Fangchengbao brand as the Bao 8 (or Leopard 8).

Inside, the cabin focuses heavily on refinement and technology, blending certain elements of a limousine and off-roader. Buyers can expect a premium interior featuring Nappa leather upholstery, a driver-focused layout and a high-end Devialet 18-speaker sound system fitted as standard across the range.

Of course, we’ll have more on the Denza B8 as the local launch nears, but buyers should have lots to look forward to given its beastly spec sheet. All that’s left to speculate on now is the price, though we expect it to not drift too far away from the fully electric D9’s ballpark, which at the moment lands between RM259k and RM309k.

There's just something about cars. It's a conveyance, it's a liability, it's a tool; but it can also be a source of joy, pride, inspiration and passion. It's much like clothes versus fashion. And like the latter, the pursuit of perfection never ends.
