2026 Kia Carnival facelift launched in Malaysia – from RM188,888, now sharper, smarter, and still properly huge

Kia is officially back in the big MPV conversation in Malaysia, with the launch of the facelifted Kia Carnival by newly established Kia Sales Malaysia (KSM). More than just another model update, this debut also marks the first product introduction since KSM was set up as Kia’s standalone National Sales Company here, making the refreshed Carnival something of a statement piece for the brand’s new chapter.

Locally assembled and staying faithful to the Carnival’s large MPV roots, the facelift brings a sharper exterior, a more modernised cabin, and a meaningful tech refresh, while retaining the proven 2.2-litre turbodiesel powertrain.

Two variants are offered. The 2.2D 11-seater is priced at RM188,888, while the more upmarket 2.2D 7-seater comes in at RM248,888 (Peninsular Malaysia, on-the-road excluding insurance).

Both variants are powered by the same 'Smartstream' 2.2-litre four-cylinder turbodiesel engine, paired to an eight-speed automatic transmission driving the front wheels with 202PS and 440Nm of torque. While KSM has not re-invented the mechanical package, the Carnival continues to lean on what it does best: long-distance comfort, effortless torque delivery, and relaxed cruising even when fully loaded.

Underneath, it runs MacPherson struts up front and a multi-link rear suspension, with ventilated front discs, solid rear discs, and MDPS steering. Turning circle is rated at 5.84 metres – respectable for something of this size.

And yes, the Carnival is still properly big. Dimensions remain imposing at 5,155 mm long, 1,995 mm wide and 1,775 mm tall, riding on a generous 3,090 mm wheelbase. Ground clearance is listed at 172 mm, which is notably high for a large MPV and a quiet advantage for Malaysian road conditions. Kerb weight goes up to 2,129 kg, reminding you that this is still very much a heavyweight family and executive people-mover.

Wheel sizes differ by variant, with the 11-seater rolling on 18-inch alloys (235/60 R18), while the 7-seater steps up to 19-inch wheels (235/55 R19).

Visually, the facelift brings the Carnival closer to Kia’s latest design language. The front end adopts the brand’s newer “Star Map” lighting graphic, paired with vertical headlamp clusters, a wider grille, and a cleaner, more squared-off bumper treatment. The overall effect is more high-tech and more SUV-like than before, without losing the Carnival’s MPV identity.

Around the back, the licence plate has been repositioned lower on the tailgate for a tidier appearance, while new Star Map tail lamps complete the modernised look. It’s still unmistakably a Carnival, but one that now feels far more current.

Step inside and the updates are immediately obvious. The dashboard is now dominated by a curved panoramic display housing two 12.3-inch screens, combining the digital instrument cluster and infotainment system into one wide, seamless panel. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support are included, reinforcing the Carnival’s family-and-fleet-friendly brief.

Both variants come well equipped as standard, including smart keyless entry with remote start, dual power sliding doors, a power tailgate, parking sensors, roof rails, wireless charging, and dual-zone front climate control with a separate rear air-conditioning system.

The 11-seater uses a 2-3-3-3 configuration, prioritising maximum passenger capacity. It even includes a fourth-row bench with pop-up and sinking functionality. Upholstery is leatherette, and boot space with all seats in place is a modest 56 litres – exactly what you’d expect when seating eleven.

The 7-seater, configured in a 2-2-3 layout, plays a very different game. It positions itself as the executive shuttle of the range, adding second-row relaxation seats with extended sliding functions, leather upholstery, a head-up display, heated and ventilated front seats, and a driver’s seat with memory function. With all seats up, luggage space is a far more usable 627 litres.

Audio systems follow the same hierarchy. The 11-seater comes with a six-speaker setup, while the 7-seater upgrades to a 12-speaker Bose sound system.

All variants are fitted with eight airbags, including a centre side airbag, and standard safety systems such as ABS, EBD, brake assist, ESC, traction control, hill start assist, multi-collision brake control, auto hold, ISOFIX points, rear occupant alert, safe exit assist, and parking distance warning.

The full active safety and driver assistance suite is reserved for the 7-seater. This includes high beam assist, blind spot collision-avoidance assist, blind spot view monitor, rear cross-traffic collision-avoidance assist, lane keeping assist, lane following assist, driver attention warning, and forward collision-avoidance assist. On paper, this makes the 7-seater the clear choice for buyers who prioritise the latest safety tech.

The facelifted Carnival is available in four exterior colours: Meteor Gray, Snowflake White Pearl, Astra Blue, and Jet Black. Every unit comes with a five-year or 150,000 km warranty.

At the launch, Kia Sales Malaysia President and CEO Hyung Ho Kim described the model as a reflection of the company’s long-term commitment to the Malaysian market, while Managing Director Emily Lek positioned the Carnival as the opening statement of Kia’s renewed push locally, built around the question, “Kenapa Pilih Kia?”

For those who want a closer look, the new Kia Carnival facelift will be on public display at Desa Park City Carpark 3 from 16 to 18 January 2026.

Big, bold, and now far more contemporary, the refreshed Carnival shows that Kia is serious about reclaiming ground in Malaysia’s large MPV space – with capacity, comfort, and tech now wrapped in a much sharper suit.

There's just something about cars. It's a conveyance, it's a liability, it's a tool; but it can also be a source of joy, pride, inspiration and passion. It's much like clothes versus fashion. And like the latter, the pursuit of perfection never ends.
