All-new 2026 Volvo EX60 teased ahead of Jan 21 debut – 810 km range, 800V electric SUV confirmed for Malaysia

Volvo is gearing up to pull the covers off its next major electric model, the all-new EX60, with a global reveal scheduled for January 21. Slotting neatly between the compact EX30 and the flagship EX90, the EX60 effectively becomes the brand’s all-electric counterpart to the hugely popular XC60. And judging by the early claims, this one is shaping up to be a big deal.

According to Volvo, the EX60 will deliver the longest driving range of any electric model it has ever produced, with up to a best-in-class 810 km on a single charge in all-wheel-drive form, as they claim. That’s a headline figure that puts the EX60 right at the sharp end of the premium electric SUV segment. Volvo says it has focused heavily on real-world usability, optimising the car not just for test cycles, but for everyday driving.

Powering this leap forward is Volvo’s new SPA3 architecture, its most advanced EV platform to date. The EX60 integrates the battery directly into the vehicle’s structure using cell-to-body technology, improving rigidity while cutting unnecessary mass. Volvo has also developed its own electric motors in-house, while a newly designed battery balances energy density with power delivery to maximise efficiency.

The EX60 is also the first Volvo to be built using ‘mega casting’, a production technique that replaces hundreds of smaller components with single high-precision castings. Fewer parts mean less weight, simpler manufacturing, and ultimately, more range.

Charging performance looks just as impressive. Thanks to an 800-volt electrical system and Volvo’s in-house software, the EX60 supports ultra-fast DC charging at up to 400kW, something we’ve only seen on the E4 Porsche Cayenne. On a suitably powerful charger, it can reportedly add up to 340 km of range in just 10 minutes, turning a charging stop into little more than a coffee break. Volvo is also backing the battery with an impressive 10-year warranty, underlining its confidence in the new hardware.

Smarter charging is part of the story too. Algorithms developed with Breathe Battery Technologies continuously manage how the battery accepts power, keeping it in its optimal operating window regardless of conditions, improving both speed and long-term durability.

Crucially for us, the EX60 is already confirmed for Malaysia. Volvo Car Malaysia has teased the SUV’s long-distance capability, positioning it as an EV capable of handling everything from Johor-to-Perlis drives to cross-state journeys with ease. In that case, at the end of such a trip up the length of Peninsula Malaysia, we wish you the best of luck finding a charger in Perlis.

Full details will be revealed on January 21 via livestream, but if Volvo delivers on these early promises, the EX60 could well become one of the most significant electric SUVs the brand has ever built.

There's just something about cars. It's a conveyance, it's a liability, it's a tool; but it can also be a source of joy, pride, inspiration and passion. It's much like clothes versus fashion. And like the latter, the pursuit of perfection never ends.
