Chery Malaysia aims for 30% sales contribution from HEV and PHEV models in 2026

Chery Malaysia is ramping up its electrification push, setting a target for hybrid and plug-in hybrid models to account for 30% of its overall sales in 2026.

Following the strong reception of the Tiggo range since its local debut in 2023, the brand is doubling down on its Chery Super Hybrid, or CSH, portfolio. The Tiggo line remains central to Chery’s strategy this year, with current hybrid offerings led by the Tiggo Cross HEV, Tiggo 7 PHEV, and Tiggo 8 PHEV.

In 2025, ICE models made up 79% of Chery Malaysia’s total sales, while CSH vehicles contributed 21%. With demand for hybrid and plug-in hybrid vehicles on the rise in Malaysia, the company expects electrified models to form a larger slice of its sales mix moving forward. The 30% target will be supported not only by existing models but also by new CSH introductions planned for 2026.

According to Lee Wen Hsiang, Vice President of Chery Malaysia, "For 2026, we anticipate that our CSH products will grow to represent 30% of our sales mix, driven by rising interest in advanced hybrid vehicles among Malaysians."

"For us, this also reinforces that we are bringing the right products to meet the needs of our customers, while reflecting Chery’s growing role in electrified mobility and our ability to meet Malaysia’s evolving expectations for energy-efficient and eco-conscious vehicles," added Lee.

Chery has already begun the year with the launch of the entry-level Tiggo 8. Up next is what is expected to be the brand’s new flagship SUV, the Tiggo 9 PHEV, which is slated to arrive in the second quarter of 2026, plus 3 more model launches in the second half of the year.

First previewed at last year’s Bangkok Motor Show, the Tiggo 9 PHEV pairs a 1.5-litre petrol engine with two electric motors driving the front wheels, delivering a combined output of 381PS and 610Nm. Despite its sizeable footprint and seven-seat configuration, the SUV is capable of completing the 0 to 100km/h sprint in 8.9 seconds.

For reference, the Tiggo 7 PHEV is currently priced at RM129,800, while the larger Tiggo 8 PHEV retails at RM159,800 in Malaysia.
