Mitsubishi Motors Corporation (MMC) announced yesterday that its new ‘small crossover MPV’ – the XM, will be making its global debut at the 25th Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show (GIIAS).
Rumoured to be named the Mitsubishi Expander, the crossover promises to offer the comfort of an MPV with the rugged styling of an SUV. A 1.5-litre petrol engine has been confirmed as the vehicle's source of power.
All set to go on sale in Indonesia later this year, the crossover will feature Mitubishi’s Dynamic Shield design theme, large sculpted fenders, as well as a prominent ride height similar to an SUV.
Inside, Mitsubishi says that the ‘Expander’ is a seven-seater which will feature a fully optimised variable seating layout with enough space for seven adults, and a generous dose of gadgets.
According to Mitsubishi, the new model will be produced at its new Indonesian factory in Bekasi Prefecture, West Java. Earlier reports have also revealed plans to develop a replacement model for the Nissan Livina family off the underpinnings of this new model.
No technical details have been revealed yet but we will be able to see the crossover in its full glory at the GIIAS which will be held from 10 to 20 August at the Indonesian Convention Exhibition (ICE) in BSD City, Tangerang, Banten, Indonesia.
