iCaur V27 gets right-hand drive, 1.5T REEV with up to 1,230 km range, set for Malaysia arrival

The Auto China 2026 show in Beijing gave us our first look at the right-hand-drive version of the iCaur V27, hinting at the brand’s growing ambitions across Southeast Asia and Oceania. According to an iCaur Malaysia marketing representative, the move strongly points to the SUV’s imminent arrival here.

For context, the V27 actually made its home-market debut in November last year. It sits as a large, boxy SUV with a rugged design language that pushes it even further up the visual “presence” scale compared to the smaller 03 and V23.

And it’s not just looks because the V27 is properly big too. It measures 5,055 mm long, 1,976 mm wide, and 1,894 mm tall, with a 2,900 mm wheelbase. That puts it firmly in full-size SUV territory.

Under the skin, the V27 takes a different route from its fully electric siblings, using a range-extended electric vehicle (REEV) setup. Power comes from a 1.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine, producing 156 PS and 220 Nm on its own.

In China, this engine works alongside either a rear-mounted single electric motor or a dual-motor setup. The single-motor version delivers 252 PS and 300 Nm, while the dual-motor variant ups the ante to a combined 455 PS and 505 Nm.

Both versions are fitted with a 34.3-kWh LFP battery supplied by CATL, giving up to 210 km of pure electric range for the single-motor model and around 200 km for the dual-motor variant.

With a 60-litre fuel tank backing it up, iCaur claims a total driving range of up to 1,230 km for the single-motor version and 1,200 km for the dual-motor. As always, these figures are based on China’s CLTC testing cycle, so real-world numbers under WLTP conditions are likely to be lower.

For now, there’s still no official word on when the V27 will arrive in Malaysia, or which variants will be offered. That said, it could follow the same strategy as the 03 and V23, meaning both powertrain options may eventually make it here. Pricing, as expected at this stage, remains purely speculative.

It’s still early days, but there’s also a chance the V27 could be locally assembled at Chery’s upcoming plant in Lembah Beringin, which is expected to begin operations this year.

While I wouldn’t label myself a hardcore petrolhead, I’ve always had a deep appreciation for cars and the simple joy of driving. For me, getting behind the wheel is a therapeutic escape.
